Connecting South Dakota: Wireless Technology conference, September 2007, Sioux Falls
More than 220 people gathered to hear industry professionals, policy makers, local leaders and telecommunications consultants share their views about wireless technology, its advantages and its limitations. Steve Largent, President and CEO of CTIA-The Wireless Association, offered the keynote address.

Wind Energy Development Meeting, July 2007, Toronto
The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission hosted an informational meeting regarding the opportunities and obstacles of wind energy development. Representatives of wind energy development companies made brief presentations about their companies and proposed projects in the area.

Briefing on Northern Plains-Midwest Coal Technology and Climate Policy Delegation to Europe, July 2007, Pierre
PUC Vice Chairman Gary Hanson hosted a panel of utility experts who discussed opportunities for carbon-neutral technologies and practices in the upper Midwest. The panelists were part of a 27-member delegation that visited commercial-scale, dry-feed gasification operations in Germany and the Netherlands in 2006.

Railroad Shipping Forum, April 2006, Sioux Falls
PUC commissioners met with representatives from power companies and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway to discuss increased rail transportation rates and a shortage of rail cars delivering coal to regional power plants and the effect on the state’s electric ratepayers.

Midwest Renewable Energy Tracking System Meeting, December 2005, Pierre
PUC commissioners and energy industry officials discussed the merits of South Dakota participating in M-RETS. This credit tracking system is designed to benefit the development of renewable electric energy technologies.

Regional Wind Conference, September 2005, Brookings
Hosted by the PUC and the U.S. Department of Energy, this conference attracted more than 260 attendees and featured 30 experts sharing views about wind energy development.

Broadband Road Trip: A High-Speed Internet Tour of South Dakota, August 2005, locations across South Dakota
PUC commissioners gave FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein a three-day tour of South Dakota to highlight the importance of high-speed internet to rural America. The group visited business that used the latest telecommunications technology to build their success.

Crisis or Renaissance? A Conference on the State of America’s Energy, April 2005, Sioux Falls
A diverse group of speakers presented topics about energy development and its relationship to our environmental and economic future.

Wireless Conference: Technology on the Horizon, September 2004, Spearfish
Topics covered at this event included new technologies in wireless communications, an FCC primer, consumer issues and funding source information.
