Commissioner Gary Hanson is scheduled to speak at a session Sept. 25 about the importance and opportunities for local and national efforts to engage immediate activities to reduce fossil fuel usage. The event is a collaboration between Koch Hazard Architects and South Dakota State University.

Experts and policymakers gathered to discuss wind energy in a two-day forum. South Dakota Public Utilities Commissioner Gary Hanson is a member of the National Wind Coordinating Collaborative, which co-sponsored the event with the American Wind Energy Association.

More than 220 people gathered to hear industry professionals, policy makers, local leaders and telecommunications consultants share their views about wireless technology, its advantages and its limitations. Steve Largent, President and CEO of CTIA-The Wireless Association, offered the keynote address.

The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission hosted an informational meeting regarding the opportunities and obstacles of wind energy development. Representatives of wind energy development companies made brief presentations about their companies and proposed projects in the area.

PUC Vice Chairman Gary Hanson hosted a panel of utility experts who discussed opportunities for carbon-neutral technologies and practices in the upper Midwest. The panelists were part of a 27-member delegation that visited commercial-scale, dry-feed gasification operations in Germany and the Netherlands in 2006.
